Employees and employers can contribute pre-tax income, and after-tax income (Roth) which can then be invested in a range of investment options. Employees can contribute up to $22,500 per year to a 401(k) plan, with a catch-up contribution of $7,500 for employees 50 and older. Employees can contribute $15,500 per year to a SIMPLE IRA with a catch-up contribution of $3,500 for employees 50 and older (as of 2023).
